This year’s seniors!

Durant varsity hockey had a wonderful season with a record of 20-6-2. However, they didn’t just get here overnight.

These boys have kept their heads up while they powered through some tough games. “We had some hard games against great teams like Newsome and Jesuit,” said freshman Alexander Burnett.

There is some amazing talent amongst the players, especially with one of the bigger names right now, Ryan Putnam. Putnam was invited to the LHSHL LIGHTNING All-Star games and has had many articles written about him and his unbelievable talent as a goalie.

These boys are very close on and off the ice especially with their new teammates. Two freshmen were added to the team this year. Senior Christian Van Brunt is very fond of this season’s new additions because, “Both of the freshmen are very good players and very fun to hang out with. I have grown a great relationship with them,” said Van Brunt. Senior Captain Ethan Carstens said, “My favorite part about being on the team is that the boys are very close.”

Carstens continues with positive remarks about the coaching staff, “The coaches keep us disciplined. The goalie coaches help the goalies stay focused and all the coaches keep us motivated.”

The Durant hockey team has six graduating seniors this year and the team is sad to see them go. “Senior Night was awesome but we are definitely not ready to see them go,” said Burnett. “I’m glad I got to play with them and I’m excited to continue.”

They are all very talented and have worked very hard. The players and coaching staff have stayed on track while striving to keep this team sharp for the new season. Follow @duranthockeyclub on Instagram for more updates. Stay cool boys!
