“Baby Driver”, directed and written by Edgar Wright, is an action packed movie inspired by its soundtrack. Wright is known for his unique style in sound design and editing in some of his more popular films: “Shawn of the Dead” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” He uses special techniques like camera angles and sound effects to build emotion; “Baby Driver” is a great example of a film that incorporates it all.

This masterpiece of a film incorporates a variety of genres into one exciting film. It has the love story between two characters but also has thrilling action scenes with a hint of music that goes along with the story. It has something for everyone in it to enjoy and watch.

The film is about a young man nicknamed Baby, played by Ansel Elgort, who suffers from tinnitus, ringing in the ear, from an accident in his past. He listens to music to help drown out the sound from the ringing. He works with Kevin Spacey’s character, Doc, as a getaway driver for his robbers. We see Baby meet a girl named Debora, played by Lily James, that he becomes very fond of and they bond over their love for music. Baby gets out of the getaway driver lifestyle and gets a real job, only to later be forced and threatened to come back for another big heist. Along with the heist, robbers played by Jon Hamm, Eiza González, and Jamie Foxx character named bats who aren’t fond of Baby.

Foxx does a great job playing a villainous hard head bank robber who doesn’t care about anyone but himself. It’s these types of characters that make the movie shine to me.

Baby always has second thoughts about being a getaway driver and having compassion for the people that get hurt in the process. It’s great to see that type of growth for a character in a film.

“Baby Driver” now sits at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s clear to see why. From the performances and the great story, to the way it’s perfectly a-line of music into action scenes. For movie lovers, this is truly a remarkable film to watch, especially as a person who wants to become a director.

So, if you’re looking for a movie to watch and enjoy, watch “Baby Driver.”
