PlayStation 5 to release during 2020 holiday season

Sony released promotion images providing gaming fans with their first look at the console.

The PlayStation 5 will be released in between October and December of 2020 in time for the holidays. The PlayStation 5 will be a product to own once it releases in stores late next year. The PlayStation 5 will be a new piece of technology and will have many new features to it. The PlayStation 5 is designed differently compared to the PlayStation 4 as the middle of the new PlayStation will have a “V” shape and Sony is considering a cloud storage based video gaming console. Sony is planning to connect the newly designed controller to your internet system and to play games on a shared server online. This will be interesting on how the new console will work. The PlayStation 5 will also include virtual reality games and will feature a new virtual reality headset.

The games that can be played are going to be played with a disk with each disk having 100GB, which is double the storage compared to a 4K blue-ray player. The PlayStation 5 will also feature a new controller design, but it is unknown what the controller’s name will be, as the PlayStation 4 controller’s name was the DualShock.

Fans should expect the PlayStation 5 to cost more due to it being an entirely new product from Sony and the PlayStation 4 was only 399 dollars. The PlayStation 5 will be the most powerful video game console made by Sony when it releases. This puts pressure on Microsoft as the creators of the Xbox and their competition will be enhanced, due to the release of the PlayStation 5 late next year.

The PlayStation 5 is going to try to compete with Microsoft to try to be the best seller with this new gaming console and Sony looks to continue to be one of the best gaming and electronic manufacturers in the world. To wrap things up, the PlayStation 5 will have a virtual reality headset, over 100GB in every disk that will be played, a new controller with an unknown name, yet to be determined, and many more features. With new upgrades and new features, the PlayStation 5 will be a worldwide sensation to a lot of people who like to play video games.

“Tetris 99” is a New Free Addition to the Nintendo Switch Software Library

Following the likes of ‘battle royale’ styled games such as Fortnite and the Apex Legends, a brand new last-man-standing title is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

After it’s surprise announcement and launch during Nintendo’s February presentation video featuring multiple announcements for future game releases for its platform, the popular puzzle block dropping game, Tetris 99, marked its way as a free addition to the Nintendo Switch lineup for members of Nintendo’s online subscription service, “Nintendo Online.” Consumers who are subscribed to the service are automatically qualified to download Tetris 99 as a part of the online package.

The long running Tetris series is a franchise beloved by many hardcore and casual fans of puzzle games around the world. Being the next entry to the game series, Tetris 99 offers a new sense of enjoyment to the classic game-play with a fresh new spin.

Tetris, similar to the likes of games such as Dr. Mario and Puyo Puyo, is a puzzle game that requires the player to rotate and move differently shaped blocks, otherwise known as “tetriminos,” which fall from the top of the playing field to the area the player wishes to place them. To continue forward, the player must clear lines at the bottom of the playing field by placing the tetriminos into the empty gaps. As the game progresses, the speed and intensity of the game continues to increase, requiring the player to make quick and purposeful decisions before the stack of tetriminos reach the very top of the matrix, ending in a K.O.

The big twist featured in Tetris 99 is the ability to challenge 98 other contestants in a single game. When a player first starts up a match, the player automatically matches up with 98 other opponents via a Wi-Fi connection.

At the end of the round, or once K.O.’d, players will see where they ranked with all 98 opponents combined.

Each player is given the ability to send “garbage lines” that stack on an opponents’ grid when the player completes a combo within the current game. In Tetris 99, players are given the option to target their garbage at an opponent in one of four groups.

  • The “Randoms” option allows the player to target garbage at random opponents across the range of remaining contestants.
  • The “Badges” option allows the player to target opponents who have an abundance of badges gained from K.O.’d opponents.
  • The “K.O.’s” option will allow the player to send garbage toward opponents who are near the edge of getting knocked out of their game.
  • Finally, the “Attackers” option will cause garbage to be sent toward opponents who have sent garbage to the player’s matrix.

In the light of a new genre being implemented into the battle royale format, fans are excited to see what the future of Tetris and other video-games has in-store for 2019. For more information regarding the famous line-clearing, T-spinning, block-rotating mind game of Tetris 99, visit or download the game off the Nintendo e-Shop on the Nintendo Switch.

Rumor has it that Eight New Characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ‘Leaked’ ahead of time

Being the newest and biggest game in the franchise to date, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate generated massive amounts of hype across the gaming community. More players are jumping on board with Ultimate as Nintendo continuously shares new information on their hottest 2-D fighting game.

In the latest installment, Nintendo has focused on adding game characters that will appeal to most fan requests. Widely requested characters, such as the Metroid villain “Ridley” and Donkey Kong Country’s villain “King K. Rool” have seen massive talk over the internet after their revealed play-ability in the new game. Popular characters, such as Splatoon’s “Inkling,” Animal Crossing’s “Isabelle” and Castlevania’s “Simon Belmont” have also taken a large amount of positivity from fans. Other characters, characterized as “Echoes” for their particular design borrowing attributes from respective characters, have also received the Ultimate treatment.

This past Wednesday, a 4chan user shared an image of official artwork for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s featuring the game’s entire final character roster. The artwork was later shared onto the original poster’s Snapchat. While the image is fairly blurry enough to cause some difficulty for people to make out the character models in the artwork, multiple 4chan users were able to determine who and where the new unannounced characters appear in the blurred image. Take a look at the outlined image below:

The leaked characters from left to right appear to be Shadow the Hedgehog from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Banjo-Kazooie from Banjo-Kazooie, Isaac from Golden Sun, KOS-MOS from Xenoblade, Ken from Street Fighter, Mach Rider from Mach Rider, Geno from the obscure Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and the Chorus Kids from Rhythm Heaven.

To further prove the original image’s authenticity, users have noticed an unreleased image for the upcoming movie, The Grinch, which is expected to hit theaters on November 9th. The unseen artwork of the Grinch appears in the bottom right corner of the original poster’s image.

Without an official confirmation from a Nintendo representative, the current leaked image will remain in speculation by online users until more information is officially given on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. in the future.

Mega Man 11 Review: The Long-Awaited Return

Title: Mega Man 11

Platform: Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One

Release Date: October 2, 2018

Arguably Capcom’s biggest mascot, Mega Man, has made a huge return into the gaming industry. The hit 2D action platformer officially marked it’s first installment after an eight-year hiatus. After the retro aesthetic and feel of  2010’s Mega Man 10,  Mega Man 11 launched with everything a new or old fan of the series could have hoped for. The newest installment takes many leaps in the right direction while staying true to core roots.

With the whole game in crisp HD graphics and a bright “cartoon-y” art style, the Blue Bomber looks better than ever before. The disastrous animated-style video sequences of Mega Man 8 luckily make no appearance in the new installment. Contrasting from and 10‘s 8-bit approach to appeal to fans of the first six installments, Mega Man 11’s visual direction feels fresh and new to the series. Thanks to the graphics department, the new art style of Mega Man 11 is a welcome addition to the series.

Gameplay-wise, 11 performs exactly how you would expect from any of Capcom’s past Mega Man titles. Old-school fans will feel right at home when they play through the game’s steep difficulty curve using the tight control mechanics that they’ve grown accustomed to.

The most notable addition to the experience is the “Double Gear System.” The Double Gear system allows Mega Man to switch between two different modes. The “Speed Gear” slows down time around Mega Man, allowing him to maneuver around obstacles a little bit easier. The gear becomes very useful in intimidating situations.

The “Power Gear” increases Mega Man’s weapon strength. Using the Power Gear will give players an advantage over difficult enemies and bosses that Mega Man may encounter. In order to balance these abilities with the gameplay, the Double Gear System will overheat after a player uses the abilities too much at one time. This cool-down system allows for the game to maintain it’s ever-increasing difficulty.

New and younger fans of the series are given the option to tone down the intensity of the game since the options are more suitable for beginners. Towards the start of creating a new game file, players are prompted with the option to play the game on. The difficult settings, Newcomer, Casual, Normal, and Superhero, are all the options available to different players who would either like to take the game in a light-hearted approach or players who are willing to take on a serious challenge.

Each level’s structure is patterned similarly to previous titles in the series. Once a player reaches the end of any stage of their choosing, they are prompted to battle the boss of that stage. The bosses, called “Robot Masters,” will challenge Mega Man to a fight that the player must succeed in to complete the stage. Reaching each stage’s Robot Master remains a challenge others would expect from a Mega Man game.

Upon defeating a stage’s Robot Master, Mega Man is prompted to a new weapon for use in his arsenal. Players controlling Mega Man have the free will to switch between the available weapons at any given time. Each weapon takes advantage of a special ability that is unique to the Robot Master that Mega Man obtained the weapon from. Each weapon’s ability can either be used strategically against bosses and enemies who have a specific weakness towards the ability of a certain weapon or used to find secrets such as an extra life or an Energy Tank in each stage.

Overall, Mega Man 11 is a breath of fresh air for the franchise. The beautiful HD graphics shine brightly with the presented new art style and the added mechanics give Mega Man fans a new depth of gameplay to dive smoothly into. Mega Man is back with the action-packed adventure that the fans have been longing for.

Nintendo Launches Paid Subscription Service, “Nintendo Online”

This past Thursday, Nintendo’s planned online service, “Nintendo Online,” launched with mostly positive reception among fans. Online services have been free ever since the launch of the Wii in 2006 and as a result, gamers were shocked once Nintendo unveiled it’s plans for a paid service early this year. Services such as Microsoft’s “Xbox Live Gold” and Sony’s “Playstation Plus” have received a lot of backlash for having expensive fees for their own online subscription services.

The service will allow it’s players to use online functionality in compatible games such as the popular hits, “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” “Splatoon 2,” “Arms,” and yet-to-be released games such as the highly anticipated “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” on the Nintendo Switch.

Alongside the basic ability to play your online games with people all around the world, Nintendo included “Cloud Saves” which is a function that allows players to backup any of their lost save files for the games that they own. If a Switch owner loses or breaks their current Switch console, they will be able to recover their save files from the Cloud that is connected to their purchased account.

Even though many people are upset with Nintendo’s decision to charge it’s players for online services, most fans are happy that Nintendo’s online system is relatively affordable compared to it’s competitors’. Microsoft and Sony charge $59.99 for their own subscription services. A purchase of a full year subscription to Nintendo Online costs $19.99. It’s other options include a one-month subscription for $3.99 and a three-month subscription for $7.99. Compared to the competition of online subscription services, Nintendo’s prices are relatively affordable.

Nintendo is also currently offering a free selection of 20 classic NES games with a subscription to the service. Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Tecmo Bowl are among the list of launch titles available to subscribers of the service.

It is confirmed that more NES games will be added to the service in the upcoming months. Solomon’s Key, NES Open Tournament Golf, and Super Dodge Ball will be available in October Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, and TwinBee will be available in November.

Earlier this month, Nintendo uploaded a video showcasing all of these features and everything they want fans to know about their service. Click on the video below to watch the official overview of Nintendo Online.

“Super Smash Bros.” Announced for the Nintendo Switch

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch

Back in March, Nintendo streamed a video showcasing new video games, downloadable content, and information regarding its upcoming software for their portable game console, “Nintendo Switch,” and their handheld console, “Nintendo 3DS.” The video, titled as a Nintendo Direct, contained many announcements including a ported version of “Luigi’s Mansion” for the 3DS, and “Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker” for the Switch and the 3DS.

Out of all the announced information, the biggest surprise came from the end of the video presentation. Many fans, including myself, were very surprised when Nintendo showcased a trailer for a brand new “Super Smash Bros.” game for the Nintendo Switch.

The video itself did not include a lot of information about the game, however. The only available information given by the trailer were the confirmed inclusion of a few playable characters. The new Super Smash Bros. will feature the “Inkling” avatar character, from the popular ink-based shooter “Splatoon,” and veteran characters “Mario” from the “Super Mario” series and “Link” from the “Legend of Zelda” series. This time around, however, Link sports his apparel from the critically acclaimed “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” released last year.

Not much is currently known about the upcoming game, which is set to release this year, other than the few details given in the trailer. With Nintendo’s E3 event taking flight in June, there are lots of questions that will soon be answered by the gaming giant.

After the announcement of the new Smash Bros. title, rumors of new characters have continued to surface the internet. While the rumors featuring the announcement of characters such as “Crash Bandicoot,” “Spyro,” and “Captain Toad” have not been confirmed, any new information for the upcoming game has yet to be officially stated by Nintendo.

In the mean-time, fans of Nintendo’s all-star brawler will have to continue to wait for new information to be released during Nintendo’s E3 press conference in June.

Super Mario Odyssey Review: Capturing the Minds of Adventurous Gamers

Super Mario Odyssey Review: Capturing the Minds of Adventurous Gamers

Title: Super Mario Odyssey
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: October 27th, 2017

It’s been awhile since Nintendo has released such a remarkable title in the Super Mario franchise. Going back to the 3D platformer’s roots, Super Mario Odyssey is a brand new title which incorporates new and original concepts built up with ideas illustrated from past games in the long-running franchise.

Odyssey’s main form leans toward the exploration style of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine as opposed to the more linear Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. While Odyssey is more exploration based, it also incorporates more linear sections that balance the game’s progression.

The biggest concept presented in Odyssey, “Cappy,” is a new character featured to represent Mario’s well recognized hat. Throughout the game, Mario is able use Cappy as a weapon thrown at enemies, a jumping pad to reach territories out of reach, and a tool to solve puzzles located throughout each Kingdom in the game.

The bulk of the puzzles in Odyssey consists of Mario throwing his hat, Cappy, at enemies to “capture” their bodies.

Basically, whenever the player tosses Cappy at certain enemies, Mario possesses that enemy. Once the player takes control of an enemy, a new set of abilities are gained, giving the player access to complete puzzles, advance through linear sections or discover secret areas containing objects to collect.

Capturing a Goomba, for instance, will allow the player to stack onto other Goombas to create a tower to reach a higher ledge holding new collectables.

Another driving point the game offers is the expansive amount of objects to collect. The main collectibles you find are Power Moons and Purple Coins. There are 1,000 Purple Coins and over 800 Power Moon locations! Players are able to acquire these collectibles throughout the game.

After completing the game’s main campaign, I was surprised by the heavy amount of content that was still left to explore. Odyssey does a fantastic job captivating the player’s attention by rewarding the player with Power Moons throughout the entire game.

Never once did I find myself having a difficult time looking for a new objective.

Between compelling ideas, colorful visuals, balanced progression and richness in content, Odyssey is a wonderful surprise for everybody.

Odyssey is a must buy for any Nintendo fan. The game is another selling reason to own a Nintendo Switch, alongside other major exclusives such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, and Splatoon 2.

Hats off to Nintendo for making a masterfully crafted platformer that evokes the adventure in all of us.

Nintendo Announces ‘Sleep’ Copy Ability Addition for Kirby Battle Royale

Photo retrieved from Nintendo of America

To everyone’s surprise, the Sleep ability took first place ahead of the Yo-Yo and Suplex abilities.

While waiting for Kirby Star Allies to release on the Nintendo Switch in March, fans of the beloved pink puffball can indulge themselves into combat in spin-off title, Kirby Battle Royale, for the Nintendo 3DS. Battle Royale places players into the cheerful fantasy world of Dreamland for intense fighting action between Kirby and his friends.

This past November, Nintendo held a poll for fans to vote for their favorite Copy Ability to be added to the brawler. Copy Abilities are abilities that the main character, Kirby, uses after stealing and replicating an enemy’s powers. A few examples of Copy Abilities include: Fire, Ice, Beam, and newer Copy Abilities such as Poison, Water, and PSI.

The poll held in November concluded with the Mirror Copy Ability having the most votes from Kirby fans. Nintendo stated that the Mirror copy ability will be added to Kirby Battle Royale with the game’s release.

With the addition of a second poll, Nintendo asked its fans to once again vote for their favorite power to be added to the game. The second poll ended with results that were comically surprising to fans. Without a thought of it happening, the winning Copy Ability of the second poll was the ‘Sleep’ Copy Ability.

In the Kirby series, the Sleep Copy Ability was often regarded as being the worst power up in every game for the sheer fact it places Kirby in a completely vulnerable state without having any benefits.

In Battle Royale’s placement, the Sleep Copy ability would appear to be counterintuitive to the game’s focus of combat between players. It will be interesting to see how Nintendo will utilize the power, making the ability viable against the other Copy Abilities in the fighting game.

With the inclusion of the Sleep Copy Ability in the game, we could potentially see Nintendo opening the door for the power having more utilities in future Kirby games.

Kirby Battle Royale is now available for purchase in the Nintendo eShop and at other retailers. For more information on the game, click here.

Nintendo Direct Mini Brings Insight on the Switch’s Future

Photo retrieved from

After the release of the Nintendo Switch back in March, Nintendo saw much success during the year of 2017. The Switch’s ability to be played on the go and on the TV has opened up many new opportunities for developers. The release of games such as the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and many other well received games such as the ink-based shooter Splatoon, and the boxing-influenced brawler Arms brought the attention to many gamers within the gaming community.

With each new success, more third-party developers have joined in to port their games onto the Switch. Bethesda’s beloved Skyrim has seen massive success, along with Psyonix’s Rocket League and Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy. Even though these may be ports of games released in the past on other consoles, they have sold surprising well and have had a lot of positive feedback from gaming audiences.

This past Thursday, Nintendo announced multiple games throughout their Nintendo Direct mini video presentation. The lineup includes many strong titles such as the Nintendo DS classic The World Ends With You; a definitive version of the Wii U’s Hyrule Warriors; a new version of the Wii U’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze featuring the new playable character Funky Kong; and, a DX version of the popular Wii U fighting game Pokken Tournament. The games that were not ports include Mario Tennis Aces, and Kirby Star Allies.

Among the games announced, FromSoftware’s Dark Souls: Remastered took the leading spot on the list of upcoming games during the Direct. The critically acclaimed action role-playing game is set to release on May 25, 2018.

Based on the presentation, the Nintendo Switch is becoming a home for both ports of older games and new games alike. It may be that ports of older games and the ability to take their favorite console game with them everywhere will be what draws new people into the Nintendo Switch scene.

For a complete list of announcements, please visit Nintendo’s main website at for more information.
