Taylor Swift Feuds with Big Machine Label Group

Swift's struggle with Big Machine continues amidst the pandemic.

Swift’s struggle with Big Machine continues amidst the pandemic.

Ten months after a very public social media feud, Taylor Swift is begging fans not to buy her new album- Live From Clear Channel Stripped 2008-a recording of her 2008 live radio performance.  Swift claims the album is being released by Big Machine Label Group without her consent and is “just another case of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus.”

In the Instagram story, Swift claims entertainment executive Scott “Scooter” Braun is broke after buying Big Machine Records which gave him control of her previous masters- a collection of over 90 of her hits.

“It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros and the Soros family, and the Carlyle Group have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $300 million for my music wasn’t exactly a wise choice and they need money,” she said in the post.

The music mayhem began in June of 2019 when Braun and his group bought Big Machine Label Group from Scott Borchetta, who signed Swift at the start of her career when she was 15.  Braun already owned the music from Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Kanye West (West and Tay-Tay have had an equally public singer’s spat for the last 11 years).  She has accused Braun of backing her social media “bullies,” such as Bieber and West, causing her hostility towards the sale.

The record deal row continued into the winter when Swift was nominated for Artist of the Decade by the American Music Academy.  Her performance on the nationally televised awards program was set to include the songs she had written over the last ten years, such as Shake It Off and Love Story.  Braun, however, argued she could not do so, at least, not without permission from the Big Machine Label Group.

After Swift used her fan base, dubbed “Swifties,” to beg Braun to let her perform her own music, Braun gave into the demands of the social media protest and allowed Swift to perform her hits at the awards show.

Braun said, after the concession, that he would not participate in the social media drama but posted his response on Instagram later that day.  In the lengthy Instagram post, Braun urged Swift to meet with him so he could talk to her personally.  He referenced death threats he and his family have received since their spat made headlines and said he never intended to make her feel “cornered or bullied.”

Swift seemed to address the spat with Braun when she opened with her new single “The Man,” wearing a t-shirt with the titles of her albums now owned by Braun.  While she did not directly mention Braun, like Taylor’s refrains, the message was loud and clear- she and Braun were never ever getting back together.

The singers’ squabble prompted other celebrities to take sides, but the alliances were predictable.  Swift’s best friend Selena Gomez and other supporters, such as Halsey, publicly declared their allegiance to Miss Americana, while Braun’s clients, such as Kanye West, sided with the entertainment executive.

Since the sale to Braun, Swift, whose deal with Big Machine expired, has signed with Universal Music Group/Republic, who says she will own the rights to all her future masters recorded with them.  However, the April 2020 release of the radio performance proves the pop singer has no control over her original masters and will be forced to fight with Braun if she hopes to ever control them again.

Disney+ streaming service is to arrive soon

This is the logo for the new straeming service coming November 12, 2019

This is the logo for the new straeming service coming November 12, 2019

In this day and age, the public can watch whatever they want, whenever they want.  With media service providers such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video almost any movie or television show is available to people with just the press of a button. Now there is new competition for these companies arising within the industry, it’s called Disney+. Disney has created its own media streaming service that will be released on November 12, 2019, and it will include movies and television shows from Disney, Pixar, National Geographic, Star Wars, and Marvel Studios.

With all of these shows and movies being on Disney+, companies like Hulu and Netflix are going to have to compete with even more competition. Disney is also taking some programs from different film industries, more specifically 21st Century Fox’s programs, such as The Simpsons and The Sound of Music. So it is not just Disney projects, but Disney is also taking from other companies as well.

In addition to posting old shows and movies, Disney+ will also make brand new television shows and films that are coming out with Disney+. Like Netflix and their own original shows and movies like Stranger Things, Disney has made a whole line up of brand new original shows and movies that can only be seen through Disney+. There will be new live-action movies, spin-offs, original films, and so much more. With all of these new projects going onto Disney+, there will also be many old shows and movies going on as well. These old films will be anything from The Parent Trap, to Hannah Montana. Disney+ will have all old, current, and new programs available to their customers.

Disney+ is going to make it harder for the other straming services to match the content available on their website. Many viewers are being drawn from the old services to Disney+.  With this new competition, a lot of things are about to change.

Catching up with the Kardashians

Jenner with her baby, Stormi

Kylie Jenner recently became a new mom to Stormi Webster on February 1st of this year. Baby Stormi weighed eight pound and nine ounces.

Jenner felt insecure about her post birth body at the Calvin Klein photo shoot with her sisters taken recently after Stormi’s birth. Jenner confessed that it was hard and discouraging to get back to photo shoots and fittings with the way her body had changed after having her daughter. Khloe Kardashian, Jenner’s sister, informed her that her body looked great still and was starting to go back to how it was. Although her sisters were very supportive, Jenner was still uncomfortable with the changes of the pregnancy and proceeded to tell her family how she was 158 pounds and unhappy.

Kim Kardashian, also Jenner’s sister, also has had kids and knows what Jenner is going through. Giving her wise words along the way to boost her confidence, Kim Kardashian made sure Jenner kept herself happy along with Stormi. Her idea of getting out of the house has taken them to celebrate Stormi’s first Halloween and going to take cute pictures with pumpkins. They headed to the Underwood Family Farms as a family, including Travis Scott, and started snapping away pictures of their adorable daughter as they were going through mazes and games, picking out pumpkins and looking at some animals while they were there.

Soon after they went home to their lavish mansion in Beverly Hills that costed around 13.45 million dollars, which is Jenner’s fifth property. Presumably Jenner and Scott own the home as joint tenants which means they are co-owners of the house. The house has a great pool and deck for Stormi to play around in as she grows up and for the whole family to hang around at. Their house includes a multi-car garage, massage room, a gym, and more. The newly purchased mansion has just about everything that lives up to the Kardashian standards.

PawPrint Reviews Howl-O-Scream

One of the female scarers scouting her next victim.

One of the female scarers scouting her next victim.

Tampa, Fla.–October has arrived meaning Halloween has too. This month is all about fright and several places offer various levels of fright. Howl-O-Scream is Bush Garden’s annual fright fest. It is held only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night’s from 7:30pm-1:00am.  The event features six haunted houses and six scare zones.

The scare zones include dozens of scarers dressed in frightening costumes that correlate to the theme of the zone. For examples, one of the scare zones is Deadly Toys, one of the scarers in the zone dressed as a deranged toy rabbit as he wielded a chainsaw. Others dressed as dolls gone mad and vengeful teddy bears.

Another zone that was not as intense was the Día de los Muertos zone. The scarers in that zone were dressed in traditional Mexican garments and had skeletons painted on their faces as they just snuck up and stared at people. This was the least intense scare zone at the park for the event.

The most intense scare zone is the Hell on Wheels. This scare zone consisted of terrifying creatures as though a zombie apocalypse had arrived, the scarers acted passive-aggressive, slowly creeping up, acting as though they won’t scare you, giving people false senses of security before they finally strike. This zone had the most psychological scaring of thee scare zones.

The other three scare zones were also very intense. The Meat Market had a recommended age limit of 17 or older. This scare zone was all about cannibalism and butchers trying cut your body up to sell. Another was Maniac Midway, a zone of crazy circus people who want to terrify you enough to make you want to join their circus. There were lots of clowns which generally scared lots of people. The sixth scare zone was Camp DOA, which means camp death on arrival. There were several creepy swamp creatures lurking, seeking to terrify people.

The entrance to the haunted house had a very long wait due to popularity.

The haunted houses took about five minutes to get through. The scarier the house was, the longer it felt like it took. There was much variance in how scary each house was.

One of the new and more intense haunted houses was Insomnia. This was an adventure through an insane asylum where patients are experimented on and are not allowed to go to sleep. The house preyed on common fears about insane asylums, psychiatric wards and doctors in general. The house combined jump scares with psychological fears to create this very intense environment that made hearts race, stomachs drop and shoulders tense.

A moderately scary house was the Death Water Bayou. This house was about a Voodoo Queen who wanted lure people into being subjects for her spells. The only thing that made the heart race was a bright pink and purple tunnel that makes it feel like you’re turning. The dizziness takes effect no matter how hard the body fights. This weakens alertness thus jump scares got people more often than usual.

The least scary house was Unearthed. This was an archaeology adventure, examining this recently dug up house that had been haunted. This one is only scary if the sight of blood, dismembered body parts and organs sickens you. One woman casually told her party that, “This would be a great anatomy demonstration. Maybe we should come back with the students.” While this house was not very scary, the fog became slightly overbearing making it difficult to breathe. This house also felt very short.

The other haunted houses include the new, Simon’s Slaughterhouse that was about Simon and how he likes to play twisted and disturbed games, which is said to be very intense as it is the only haunted house with a suggested age limit, which is 17 or older. This was made even more intense because to get in and out of Simon’s Slaughterhouse, you must travel through the Meat Market. Another was The Black Spot, which was about a pirate who wanted you dead. Lastly Motel Hell, where nightmares become realities.

Even if being scared is not an ideal way to celebrate Halloween there are other things available to do. They offer a show several times during the night, the show is called Fiends. The show is a musical featuring many classic creatures such as Frankenstein and werewolves. The six major thrill rides Bush Gardens has to offer are also open during Halloween. These rides are Cobra’s Curse, Falcon’s Fury, Cheetah Hunt, Montu, SheiKra & Kumba. Close to Sheikra, there is a DJ who plays music throughout the night, creating a massive dance circle. The music ranged from the 90’s until now, with various genres like Latin pop and hip-hop because they are easy to dance to even if they are unfamiliar.
